What a Control4 system does
Control4 is a home automation platform. A small controller in your equipment closet talks to the lights, speakers, TVs, thermostats, shades, locks, cameras and pool equipment, and gives you one way to run all of them: a remote, an app on your phone, keypads on the wall, touchscreens or your voice.
The hardware matters, but the programming is what makes it feel effortless. That’s our job: designing the system around how your household lives, then programming scenes, schedules and buttons that do the obvious thing every time.

A written plan with every controller, keypad, speaker and remote, and what each button will do.

What is Control4?
Control4 is a smart home platform that brings lighting, audio, video, climate, shades, locks, cameras and other equipment together so they can be controlled from one app, remote, keypads or voice. A controller in your home runs the system, and a professional installer designs and programs it.
Do you install and program Control4?
Yes. NerdSquad designs, installs and programs Control4 systems for homes across Southwest Florida, and supports them after move-in.
Can Control4 work with the equipment I already have?
Often, yes. Control4 integrates with many lighting systems, TVs, receivers, thermostats, locks, cameras and pool controls, including Lutron lighting. We check what you have during the walkthrough and tell you what can be connected and what’s worth replacing.
Does Control4 work if the internet goes down?
The controller runs in your home, so local control from keypads, remotes and the in-home app keeps working without the internet. Remote access, voice assistants and streaming services need a connection.
Can I make changes to Control4 myself?
You can adjust some scenes and schedules in the app. Deeper programming, like new keypad buttons, rooms or devices, is done by a professional installer. That’s us, and many changes can be made remotely.
Can you take over a Control4 system someone else installed?
Usually, yes. The system needs to be moved to us so we can access its programming. We’ll walk you through the steps, review what’s there and fix what isn’t working.
Does Control4 work with Alexa or Google Assistant?
Yes. Control4 works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, so you can run scenes and control lights, music and more by voice, alongside keypads, remotes and the app.
How much does a Control4 system cost?
It depends on the size of the home, the number of rooms and which systems you want to connect. We don’t publish one-size prices. After a walkthrough we give you a written, room-by-room proposal.
