Managed EDR and MDR for Southwest Florida Businesses
Antivirus checks the guest list. EDR watches what everyone does after they’re inside.
NerdSquad Managed IT Services puts endpoint detection and response (EDR) on every computer we manage, and on Endpoint 360 adds managed detection and response (MDR): a 24/7 security operations center that investigates alerts, isolates infected devices and rolls back ransomware changes.

What is EDR, and how is it different from antivirus and MDR?
Endpoint detection and response (EDR) is security software on each computer and server that watches behavior, not just known virus signatures. When a program starts encrypting files, a user account starts acting strangely or a script runs that shouldn’t, EDR can stop it, isolate the device and record exactly what happened.
Managed detection and response (MDR) adds the people. A security operations center (SOC) watches the alerts around the clock, investigates what’s real, hunts for threats that slipped through quietly and takes action, instead of leaving the alerts for someone to read on Monday.
We’re a Managed Service Provider (MSP) in Naples. EDR runs on every device we manage, on every plan. MDR with a 24/7 SOC comes with Endpoint 360.
Antivirus
Checks the guest list
Blocks files that match known threats. Useful, but new and fileless attacks walk right past it.
EDR
Watches behavior
Spots suspicious activity, stops it, isolates the device and keeps a timeline of what happened.
MDR
Adds people, 24/7
Security analysts in a SOC staffed around the clock across five global locations investigate alerts, hunt for hidden threats and respond.

What happens when something goes wrong at 2:47 a.m.
Ransomware rarely starts at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday. It starts when nobody’s looking. Here’s how a detection plays out on a device protected by EDR and watched by a 24/7 SOC.

03 · What each plan includes
EDR on every plan. A 24/7 SOC on Endpoint 360.
Every managed device gets EDR, patching and monitoring. The difference between plans is who responds and when.
Endpoint Starter and Pro
EDR on every managed computer and server
Automatic blocking and isolation of known-bad behavior
Alerts handled by our team during your plan’s coverage hours
Monitoring and patching around the clock
Endpoint 360
Everything in Starter and Pro
24/7 security operations center (SOC) monitoring and MDR
Security information and event management (SIEM) logging
Proactive threat hunting
Compliance support and reporting
04 · Why “managed” matters
An EDR tool nobody watches is a very expensive smoke detector
EDR products are only as good as their setup and the people reading the alerts. Too sensitive and your team drowns in false alarms. Too relaxed and real attacks get marked “low priority.”
Policies tuned to your environment, so line-of-business software isn’t flagged every day
Exclusions documented and reviewed, not added to make an alert go away
Coverage checked so every device actually has the agent and it’s reporting
Alerts tied to tickets, so nothing is acknowledged and forgotten
Detections reviewed at your quarterly business review
Cyber insurers increasingly ask whether you have EDR and whether someone monitors it. We can document both for your renewal.

EDR and MDR FAQ
What is endpoint detection and response (EDR)?
EDR is security software on computers and servers that monitors behavior, detects suspicious activity like ransomware encryption or credential theft, and responds by stopping processes, isolating the device and recording a timeline for investigation.
What’s the difference between EDR and antivirus?
Traditional antivirus blocks files that match known threats. EDR watches what programs and users actually do, so it can catch new, fileless and hands-on-keyboard attacks that antivirus misses, and it gives you tools to investigate and respond.
What is MDR?
Managed detection and response (MDR) pairs EDR with a team of security analysts who monitor alerts around the clock, investigate, hunt for threats and take action. It’s the difference between an alarm and an alarm company.
Is 24/7 monitoring included in every plan?
Monitoring and patching run around the clock on every plan. 24/7 SOC monitoring with MDR, SIEM logging and threat hunting are part of Endpoint 360. On Starter and Pro, our team handles alerts during your plan’s coverage hours.
Can EDR stop ransomware?
EDR is one of the best tools against ransomware because it detects encryption behavior and can isolate the device and roll back changes where supported. No single tool stops everything, which is why we pair it with patching, MFA, email security and tested backups.
Will EDR slow down our computers?
Modern EDR is designed to be lightweight. If a business application conflicts with it, we tune the policy and document the exception instead of turning protection off.
Does cyber insurance require EDR?
Many cyber insurance applications now ask about EDR and whether it’s monitored, alongside MFA and backups. Requirements vary by insurer, so we review your application and document what’s in place.
What happens if EDR finds something?
The device can be isolated automatically, and the alert is investigated. Depending on what’s found, we stop the activity, remove what was installed, roll back changes, reset credentials and send you a plain-English report.
Do you cover servers and laptops that leave the office?
Yes. EDR runs on every managed computer and server, and it keeps reporting when laptops are at home, in a hotel or on hurricane evacuation.
Can we keep our current antivirus?
Usually we replace it, because running two security agents can cause conflicts. We’ll review what you have during onboarding and make the switch without leaving devices unprotected.
